What To Give?

I would love your opinion. As you all know I have been going to radiation Monday through Friday for the past 5 weeks. Wednesday is my last session and now my treatment is come to the end. From now on is preventative surgery and medication. Is this a light I see at the end of the tunnel? I am not sure but I will let you know.

When I completed my chemo I went to the local cupcake store and got a dozen gourmet treats to take to the chemo nurses. Yes, there is a gourmet cupcake store in my neighbourhood and yes, it is appropriately called Cupcakes. These concoctions are very sweet with gobs of buttery icing in girlie colours. The chemo nurses loved the treats and I was really happy to bring them some. I was thinking of doing the same thing for the radiotherapists as I really feel like I have gotten to know a few of them with my daily visits. One of them actually only lives a couple blocks from me so we talk about the neighbourhood haunts. This is how I came to learn that she hates these cupcakes. It also turns out that she and some other radiotherapists have gone on a total dietary detox. Their plan was to go completely dairy, wheat and sugar free for a few months before Christmas and then “retox” for the holidays. At this time they all are still on their diet. Therefore at this time I am totally fucked for a yummy thank-you giftie.

After much thought I have decided the only thing I can think of that can offer these dietary heathens an opportunity for yumminess but still provide sugary treats for the regular folks is to load up a Starbucks card so each of them can take it on their break for a caffeine free soy latte or a double sweet hot chocolate depending on their preferences.

What do you think of this idea?

Is it too impersonal or a good giftie compromise that makes everybody happy?

Please discuss.

It might be too late for my suggestion, but... we give a gift each Christmas to our local Starbucks employees, as a thanks for all the great service we get all year. We also give a gift to the staff at the vet's office. We find that both places are usually overrun with edible goodies at this time of year, so we try to give fun gifts to help them ward off stress. I don't know if you're familar with ArchieMcPhee.com, but last year we gave both offices a "Martian Popping Thing", after labeling it, "Client/Customer from Hell". This year we're giving out "Affirmation Balls" which the staff can play with after they've had a tough day. We like to give gifts to help people have a laugh and burn off some stress after a difficult time. The staff at the radiation clinic would probably love something which would make them laugh... what about a copy of the book, "Bad Cats" to keep in the office?

What do I think? I think I want to give you a big hug because you're uber sweet!

Starbucks coffee cards are a wonderful idea. And there's more than coffee at Starbucks, so everyone's taste would be fulfilled.

* Word verify didn't appear the first time, because the blogger nazis hate me! Thought you'd like to know. Then they said to me *oxfmzli* - well, OXFMZLI you blogger!

I think Starbucks is a great idea. Actually, I'm sure they'll appreciate anything you give them. It really is sweet of you to think of them.

And hello! Tomorrow's your last day!! Woot!!

Archie McPhee rocks - you can actually get an Edgar Allen Poe "action figure" there, which I thought was the funniest thing I have ever seen.
The Starbucks thing is excellent, because damn,SB is expensive, and all the news shows after the holidays start doing their "how to save $$" shows, and what's the first thing they say? Stop buying a daily coffee.

Glad you are almost done with the radiation part. Woohoo..
I would give them each a bag of brussel sprouts. They are kind of awful tasting but they look so cheery and green.
You could throw in some red peppers for a Christmasy theme.
But coffee coupons would be good too I guess. Not as good as brussel sprouts but good kind of..

I was going to suggest carrot and celery sticks, but I like the brussel sprout idea better.

Although the Starbuck's cards can be seen as slightly impersonal, it let's them know you are thinking about them.

Are there any organic chocolate places around? A lot of them have chocolate options with no sugar or dairy added...but are still oh so yummy.

Opera gal - YES! The EA Poe action figure is da bomb!

I think the Starbucks' cards are a great idea - they can be as on or off their diets as they want with that.

You could also pass out snapshots of your bare ass as gifts. I have to imagine that would work better for you than it has for me...

I think people who don't drink real coffee don't deserve presents.

I'm kidding. I do think that you are a sweetheart, and I'm glad things are looking brighter.

Edible underwear? Is that allowed in the diet?

If food is too tricky, you could give something non-foody, like flowers. But yes, I think the Starbucks card is brilliant.

Mou, Whooo hoooo!!! Not long to go now and it will be all over and your breasticles can heal!

What about a lovely big fruit basket? They can eat as much as they want guilt free and have an excuse to do a super duper retox!

I would give a $5 [or other appropriate amount] gift card to each one, in a thank you card. I think that the gift card idea is wonderful, and you are very kind to consider thanking the people that took care of you throughout. Most people aren't that considerate.

I hope I'm not too late. Don't give them a picture of Bucky's ass!

No matter what you give, you're super sweet for doing it.

leigh-ann-what a good idea. Unfortunately it is too late for me to get one of those things but I will totally mentally file it away for next time. Thanks for the suggestions.

fuel-I didn't think about a link to my blog. I wonder if they would be interested.

dima-thanks for the cyber hug. I hope they like the card, as I decided on the card.

sharkey-WOOT! WOOT!! WOOT!!

whfropera-that is a good point about the coffee money savings part. You are totally right!

happyandblue2-well they were totally out of brussel sprouts at the store today so your fabulous idea was impossible. However they had lots of Starbucks cards in so I got one of those. I am at a loss as to what I could get my dad for Christmas this year and if the store can get new brussel sprout stock in from Belgium in time I will get him some. Thanks for the idea.

leafgirl77-and dip! I could have got them dip!

bucky-poor bastids have had to endure my crispy tit as well as my manky armpit for over a month. Photos of my ass would probably send them over the edge...

amanda b- um...I am a tea drinker. Am I still gift worthy?

kalki-I think edible undies are considered a starch and therefor could be tricky. I think the Starbucks card is the way to go.

tina-I thought this was a nice idea but when I went to the store today the fruit selection was so crappy. I will file this away for a summer gift sometime in the future.

circe-phew! I will let you know if they like it.

kassi-I wouldn't be surprised if they got lots of gifties. They were just so nice.

susie-too late! I gave them a pic of your ass. Bucky said you wouldn't mind.

closet m-thanks! *BLUSH*

twisted u-I hope they know it is just a gesture from the heart.
